Story, Personality, Others:

Roxy was brought to us from a municipal pound. We were told she was kept all her life on the chain, she had puppies and the owner did not want her and them so she was surrendered to the shelter. The puppies got adopted and she was going to stay in her small cell forever but fortunately she was brought to Cantinho. But even in the shelter a scared dog like this is not well… We were lucky to have a foster home for her and this is where she has been for the last few months.

When she entered this home it was obvious she has never lived in one. She was scared of everything. She was terrified of human touch. She hid in the corner. She peed inside. She only ate at night when noone was looking. She did not walk on the leash.

A few months later she is like another dog. She is used to living in a home, in fact she wants nothing else. She is house clean. She eats well. She walks very well on the leash and she loves her daily walk on the street. She is brilliant with other dogs – in fact they did as much work as the foster mum in socialising her. And she is extremely gentle.

She is still sensitive to change and gets nervous in new situations but now we know she just needs time to overcome it.
