Story, Personality, Others:

Mel appeared on the 1st of January, like many dogs on that day she must have escaped overnight scared by the noise of fireworks at the New Year´s Eve. Every year dogs go missing that night and every year the dog owners don´t do anything to keep the dogs safe.

For two weeks Mel was hanging around the same place. Near a garbage been at the petrol station on a national road. In fact she was hidden somewhere during the day and she only appeared in the evening when it was calmer and she was sleeping under the bin. Maybe she was eating from that garbage bin every night.

She seemed very scared and was running away from people, it took two weeks to catch her. When she was caught, she just relaxed. She was not scared anymore, on the contrary, she revealed herself very friendly and trusting, used to people, it was difficult to understand why she was so scared before. But maybe she just needed a human protection. To understand she was not on her own anymore, that she could rely on someone. She was lost, hungry, she did not know her way home, she was simply scared.

It resulted she had a chip. The owners were contacted. She was not far from home but the owners were not looking for her. There are so many ways…. posting leaflets in public places, making an ad on a known page for lost dogs, registering dog as lost in the chip database. They did none of that. And when contacted they were not too interested in getting her back. They said she had puppies 2,5 months before, they gave away the puppies to whoever wanted and kept one for themselves so in fact they would just keep the puppy and they were happy to sign the necessary documents to surrender Mel to the shelter.

Once in a safe environment Mel resulted to be a completely different dog. She is very sweet and super friendly with people. She loves human attention. She comes when called. She is very friendly with other dogs. She walks well on the leash.

Mel was discarded for no reason by someone who had no heart and who did not consider her a family member. She deserves better.
