Gandalf was brought to us from a municipal pound, a state owned place, where the care of dogs is below the desired minimum. All they do is to send dogs to private shelters (mind you, municipal place get the government money and private places nothing) but until they do that the dogs pass through hell there.
So they sent a truckload of dogs. All extremely dirty, some sick and died shortly upon arrival, some sick and we managed to treat and save.
Gandalf was sent to us sick, he has leishmaniose, and he should have been treated long time ago. He did leishmaniose treatment with us and he is doing well. Now he only needs to take one pill of alopurinol per day. Dogs with leishmaniose, once it is controlled, can have many years of good life.

Unfortunately Gandalf has a very fragile nose, this often happens with leishmaniose positive dogs and we need to put a cream on it every day.
Apart from this he is a very sweet and nice dog, lovely with dogs and people and he deserves much better.
