Story:
Bolinha is a senior dog who always lived in a home. His owner got old, she cannot walk him anymore and her daughter decided to bring him to the shelter. Imagine the stress for an old sofa dog to be put in a place with 700 barking dogs where he has to sleep in a plastic bed and share kennel with 20 other dogs, some of them young, jumpy and annoying.
So on the first day, when he came, he bit someone.
We give him the benefit of the doubt. He is not an aggressive dog. He was stressed. But he is a dog that can bite when stressed.
Since then he has never bitten anyone. But he is not happy. He hides in the corner of the kennel, he does not interact with people nor other dogs. he is unhappy but no one will want to adopt a dog that has bitten. A dog that in other circumstances, in a loving home, would probably never bite.
We are asking ourselves how much work really a small and senior dog can generate and was there really no way for the owner or her daughter to keep him. Do they realize how deeply unhappy is the dog that slept in the old woman’s bed for 8 years, the dog she stroked daily and she said she liked. Or do they care?
